Luminescent Probe Imaging

Luminescent probes have been developed commercially and also in the laboratory under the direction of Dr. Bradley Smith of the University of Notre Dame.  When the luminescent probe is injected into an animal it is targeted to a specific location (tumor or site of infection, for example) and may be detected using a light sensitive camera. The light output of these cells is a measure of their vitality and is commonly used to assess antibiotic efficacy in living animals.
